How It Began
Douglas Trailer Rental started in 2023 with just one enclosed trailer and a completely different vision in mind.
Our original plan was to transform an old enclosed trailer into a custom-built camper. We purchased a 6x12 enclosed trailer and got straight to work, stripping the interior down to the studs. We cut openings for windows, installed electrical wiring, added insulation, and finished it off with new lighting and a beautiful ceiling.
Everything was coming together until we reached the next phase of the project: purchasing batteries, power converters, kitchen equipment, and all the other essentials needed to turn our trailer into a fully functioning camper.
That's when reality set in. After adding up the costs, we quickly realized we had bitten off more than we could chew. The project was going to cost significantly more than we originally anticipated.
Rather than giving up on the idea, we decided to take a different approach.
What if we rented out the trailer to help fund the camper project?
It seemed like the perfect solution. We could keep the trailer, slowly save up for the remaining camper equipment, and make a little extra money along the way.
So, we created a simple Facebook ad offering our 6x12 enclosed trailer for rent.
To our surprise, the response was almost immediate. Customers started booking the trailer, and before long, we were receiving multiple requests for the same dates. Some customers even began asking if we had other types of trailers available.
That's when we realized we had stumbled onto something much bigger than our original camper project.
Then to Now
From One Trailer to a Growing Business
What started as a way to fund a personal project quickly turned into a growing local business. Over time, we began adding more trailers to our fleet, expanding our services, and building relationships with customers throughout the Phoenix East Valley.
Today, Douglas Trailer Rental offers a variety of trailers, including enclosed trailers, car haulers, utility trailers, and flatbeds. Whether someone is moving furniture, hauling a vehicle, transporting equipment, or tackling a weekend project, our goal is to provide dependable trailers at affordable prices.
Although our business has grown, our approach remains the same:
- Well-maintained equipment
- Straightforward pricing
- Flexible scheduling
- Customer service you can count on
Looking Back
Built From a Simple Idea
Looking back, it's hard to believe that a camper project that went over budget would become the foundation of Douglas Trailer Rental.
What began with one trailer, one Facebook ad, and an unexpected opportunity has grown into a business we're proud to continue building.
And while that original camper never quite became what we envisioned, it helped us create something even better.
Thank you for being part of our story and supporting a locally owned Arizona business.
