Story From The Owner
When I first started, I had no business plan in place. In 2023, I started with one trailer and the urge to build a camper trailer. I bought a 6x12 enclosed trailer and stripped it down to the studs. We cut holes in the sheet metal for windows, ran wiring, and insulated the trailer.
After installing lights and putting in a nice ceiling, it was time to buy batteries, converters, and all the equipment needed to build a kitchen. I guess you could say I bit off more than I could chew because once I started pricing everything out, I realized the project was way over budget.
With the dream of a fully functioning camper slipping away, I wanted to find another way to enjoy all the time and money we had already invested in the trailer. One weekend, we took the 6x12 camping, and as I was setting up and unloading, I thought about just renting it out. That way, I could keep the trailer, enjoy the "camper" whenever it was available, and make some of my money back.
I posted a Facebook ad, and it took off. Soon I was getting booked out weeks in advance and even accidentally double-booking rentals. That was the moment I realized there was real demand for trailer rentals, and it sparked the idea that would eventually become Douglas Trailer Rentals.
